Step-by-step instructions

Installing the ICE-sample software...

To install the ICE-sample software, follow the instructions on this page: the trickiest part is getting the software expanded in the correct place... so follow this bit of the instructions with more than usual care...

N.B. Installing the sample corpus constitutes agreement to abide by the license conditions.

Installation instructions for your home PC (not for FB10-CIP Labor!!!)
  1. Download the large packed “exe” file called "ice-gb-c.exe" to some chosen directory.
  2. Unpack this by clicking right on it and selecting "Open with Winzip". Then click "Extract" and choose a safe place to put it (e.g., C:\Temp).
  3. Make sure that you do not have a subdirectory called Download in that directory. This is important, because the process of unpacking the downloaded file will place files in a subdirectory called Download. Move the large exe file to an empty temporary directory if you are not absolutely sure.
  4. The best place is to put it in something like C:\Temp so that you can find it again easily.
  5. Do not run the executable file by double-clicking it. You have to execute the program with the parameter -d. You can do this in Windows 95+/NT etc. by going to Start | Run... on the desktop and typing:
  6. ice-gb-c -d
  1. Then, open the new Download subdirectory that has been made in that directory and run the Install program (by double-clicking on it). This performs a full installation of ICECUP and the Sample Corpus to locations of your choice. When the installation is complete, you can safely remove the temporary directory and its contents.
  2. You can then start the ICE program from the Start menu.
