A lab session with Tatoe: Text Analysis Tool with Object Encoding

Course Home Page

Tatoe was developed by Melina Alexa and Lothar Rostek to support people analysing texts, and especially people who wish to mark-up their texts in particular ways so that they can search for information more easily. The general description of Tatoe is given at the Tatoe home page.

Tatoe may not be available on the PC you are using: if not then you have to download and install it. This is quite simple, although the Tatoe program is quite large. To download just go to the download page and click "Download Tatoe" (at the bottom) of the page. You will be prompted for some folder to put the download file: choose somewhere that you can find again!

This downloads a file which is zipped. Unzip this file. Then look for the file: tatoe.bat among the files that have appeared after unzipping. Clicking twice on this will start Tatoe. The Tatoe home page includes a manual and instructions/examples of using Tatoe for English and German texts.
