This workshop takes Maltese English as a starting point for discussing the ontological status of the established categories EFL (English as a foreign language) and ESL (English as a second language). Is there a paradigm gap to close (Mukherjee & Hundt, 2011) or do we just have to look closer at the structural properties, acquisition contexts and discourse pratices of the respective varieties of English?

External listeners are very welcome, just send a short notice to Benjamin Saade (Universität Bremen).
