Maltese language course 2015

Date: August 31 - September 4, 2015
Location: Universität Bremen, GW2, A3570
Teacher: Sandra Abela (Malta)
Organizer: Benjamin Saade (Malta Centre, Universität Bremen)

For the first time, the Malta Centre offers a practical one week language course in introductory Maltese in cooperation with the FZHB (Fremdsprachenzentrum der Hochschulen im Land Bremen). The course is aimed at everyone who wants to gain an insight into Maltese grammar and learn basic conversational Maltese (A1 in the Common European Reference Framework).

Maltese is an Arabic language most closely related to Tunisian Arabic. In its history Maltese has been influenced by several languages, most notably by Italian and English. Half of the vocabulary of Maltese consists of Romance words and it is the only Arabic language written in Latin script.

Since this is the first installment of the course it will be offered completely free of charge.

The learning materials for the class are the following books:

Maltese Grammar Essentials in context (Maltese for Foreigners - Level A1), ISBN: 978-99957-826-0-3
My First 750 Words in Maltese (Maltese for Foreigners - Level A1), ISBN: 978-99957-826-1-0
Speaking Maltese (Maltese for Foreigners - Level A1), ISBN: 97899957-826-2-7

All participants are expected to bring the books to the first session.

Important: the language of instruction is English.

For registration please use the official registration form at the FZHB.

Participants from outside Bremen can also request information about convenient accommodation possibilities near university for the duration of the course. For this and other organisational questions please contact Benjamin Saade (Universität Bremen, Malta Centre)
