Work in Progress
For a myriad of reasons, interesting texts are not always publishable, a fact that disappointed authors sometimes don't understand. They might simply be too long. They may, for instance, lack that final polish we expect from the printed word. They may really only work as performed texts. Or perhaps they only work within a cluster of texts by various people writing very differently on a particular topic or in a particular form which, if published, would hi-jack an issue. This is particularly true of workshop assignments with a certain charm and entertainment value (like the one where students were asked to re-write Shakespeare's Sonnet 18 as a haiku) but which may not stand the test of time. These are the kind of texts which might find their way to a Department notice board and stay up long enough for students and staff to read, and then get binned at the end of term to make room for others.
